WATER PROJECTS

Unfortunately, clean drinking water is not a given on Lombok.

Harapan Baru assists the population and village communities in obtaining safe drinking water. This is achieved by tapping groundwater at depths of 25 to 55 meters and providing all the necessary equipment to pump it up. Miles of water pipelines are laid from the source to the villages, and water tanks are installed for water storage. Harapan Baru only offers this assistance if the community is motivated and willing to sustain the project. Village residents are also responsible for maintenance, and village committees are established for this purpose. Each household pays a monthly fee to cover maintenance costs. In cases where it is not possible to supply clean drinking water via pipelines (such as in remote mountain villages), water filters are provided to convert stored rainwater into drinking water.

By 2024, more than 1,500 families have been provided with clean drinking water through pipelines, and 270 families now use water filters. It only cost €2.41 per person to provide them with clean drinking water.

Up until now, funds for this project were raised by Rotary Aalten-Wisch, Rotary Bergh, and the Walking for Water project. As previously agreed, this collaboration has ended. Harapan Baru hopes to find new sponsors to financially support the water project so it can continue.
