TEAM HARAPAN BARU LOMBOK INDONESIA

Nick Rensink
Nick founded the organization in 2016 to help people with disabilities. In the following years, much has happened, and currently, HBLI supports the communities of Gunung Sari and Batu Layar. Within the organization, Nick focuses on coaching the team, setting long-term goals, and maintaining relationships with donors and sponsors. His hobbies are hiking in the mountains, playing chess, and diving. When asked why, as a Dutchman, he chose this work, Nick said: “I love the simple life here. Life is not as rushed as in Europe, but everything is possible. People take time for each other. There is little help for people with disabilities. It’s great that I can help people with my knowledge. Pioneering and developing new initiatives is in my blood.”

Lia Marsandi
Lia is Haraban Baru Lombok Indonesia’s team leader. In addition to this, she coordinates development projects in village communities and assists 50 schools with aid projects following natural disasters. She occasionally still teaches English at a school. It’s nice to be able to do that when you have studied the English language. She wants to improve the living conditions of the people around her. Making people smile/laugh is what she loves the most. When she is not working, she enjoys exploring nature. Lia loves meeting people from other countries and is interested in other cultures.

Humaidi
Before joining the Handicapable team in 2017, Humaidi worked as an Economics teacher at a private school. In addition, he had his own business, selling perfume. After the 2018 earthquake, Humaidi decided to quit his job to help the survivors. Now, he works for Haraban Baru as the coordinator for micro-enterprises. He finds great fulfillment in the work in which people with disabilities gain more independence. The water projects that Harapan Baru carried out in recent years were also under his leadership. Humaidi is married and has a son. Entrepreneurship is in his blood. In the future, he again hopes to start a business with his wife.

Rifkiy
Rifkiy has been part of the team since 2019 as a social worker. His previous job was at one of the best-known radio stations on Lombok. He has strong communication skills, which he uses to help and motivate the participants in the micro-enterprises. Rifkiy is also involved in the micro-loan programs, helping clients obtain the necessary official documents (such as identity cards or medical papers). He also supervises community development (the development of village activities, especially by young people). In his free time, he enjoys cooking and spending time with his cats.
